Product Description

Heavy-Duty Column Pay-off & Take-up: Engineered for Maximum Load Stability

Column-type pay-off and take-up units (also known as dual-column or gantry-style pay-off/take-up machines) are essential auxiliary equipment in cable manufacturing lines used to handle large-format, heavy-duty reels (bobbins/drums). They utilize two independent columns—capable of motorized vertical lifting and horizontal opening/closing—to clamp and secure the reel's center bore, enabling smooth cable pay-off (unwinding) and take-up (winding).

**Key Structural Features**

**Dual-Column Support:** Features a welded steel plate column structure; motors drive lead screws or chains to control the vertical and horizontal movement of the columns, accommodating reels of various widths and diameters (typically ranging from PN800 to PN3150 or larger).

**Shaftless Clamping:** The reel is secured by clamping cones (center chucks) at both ends, eliminating the need to insert a heavy solid shaft; this ensures high reel-changing efficiency and is ideal for heavy-duty operations.

**Mobile Design (Optional):** Large portal/gantry-style units can move back and forth on floor rails to adapt to changes in production line length or to synchronize with other equipment (such as caterpillar haul-offs).

**Tension and Traverse Systems:**

**Pay-off:** Typically equipped with mechanical disc brakes, magnetic particle brakes, or motor torque control to maintain unwinding tension.

**Take-up:** Features an independent servo or VFD-controlled motor and a precision traverse system to ensure neat, layered winding and prevent "telescoping."

**Role in the Production Line**

**As a Pay-off Unit:** Positioned at the start of tubular stranders, rigid/planetary stranders, or extrusion lines, it provides stable unwinding tension for large reels of conductors or cable cores, preventing loose winding or surface abrasion.

**As a Take-up Unit:** Positioned at the end of cabling, extrusion, armoring, or rewinding processes, it neatly winds the finished cable onto large reels at a set pitch, facilitating storage and transport. Independent Rewinding/Testing Line: Operates as a standalone pay-off and take-up unit for cable length verification, spark testing, inkjet marking, or spool transfer.

Distinctions from other pay-off systems

Compared to Magnetic/Shaftless Cantilever Pay-offs (Small-scale 500–630 models): The Column-type system is specifically engineered for ultra-heavy loads (ranging from 5 to 55 tons) and large-diameter reels, offering superior structural rigidity; in contrast, the 500–630 magnetic-powder pay-off stands are typically used for small-to-medium gauge high-speed stranding or upstream extrusion processes.

Compared to Powered Pay-off Stands (Shaft-based): The Column-type system eliminates the need to install or remove shafts during reel changes, offering higher levels of automation and safety, making it better suited for the production of large-cross-section, long-length products such as high-voltage and submarine cables.
