Robust Drum Twister for 5-Core Power Cables: Handling Up to 9.6mm Insulated Conductors
The Drum Twister or Universal Cabler may be used for Planetary Assembly of conductors and other elements when combined with rotating/neutralizing payoffs. The elements in a planetary assembly do not experience any axial torque. This process is ideally suited for hybrid and composite cables in addition to large size power conductors and provides several advantages over traditional planetary machines including higher speed, productivity, improved safety, and more flexibility.
Application
- Take up reel diameter from 1,600 mm to 2,600 mm with pulling haul-off, For laying up of round or sectoral cables, armouring and screening of cables up to Ø 90 mm
- Take up reel diameter from 2,800 to 4,500 mm with rotating pulling haul-off For laying up of round or sectoral cables, armouring and screening of cables up to Ø 150 mm and for the production of Milliken cables with cross section up to 3,500 mm2
1. Core Structure & How It Works
Rotating Drum: The heart of the machine is a large cylindrical frame. Payoff stands are fixed inside this frame.
Zero Back-Twist: Since the bobbins rotate with the frame, the wires do not receive any "back-twist" (unless equipped with special driven payoffs). This makes it ideal for pre-shaped sector conductors.
Integrated Process: It typically includes a assembling head (closing die), optional taping heads (for bedding or shielding), a rotary haul-off(to pull the cable without twisting it further), and a rotary take-up.
Scale: These machines are massive. They handle large reels (e.g., PN1000 to PN4000+) and are designed for very long production runs.
